14X-ing My Business In 30 Months
Here's how it all started.
In 30 months, I’ve gone from managing $50M in revenue to $700M.
My 1-person business is now a 17-person team that serves over 75 SMB owners.
This week, I’m sharing exactly how it started.
So, let’s get into it.
Finance Is All I’ve Ever Wanted to Do
For the past 11 years, I’ve read Barrons, the Wall Street Journal, and Bloomberg every morning without fail.
I’ve also read hundreds of books on the subject.
I simply can’t get enough of it.
But I knew early on that I had to put myself out there and actually do it.
So, I headed off to college to land a good finance job.
Then, I Got Lucky
In my sophomore year of college, I interned at an investment firm.
The firm was small—just 15 people.
Since the goal of college all along was to land a good finance job, I let the work consume my life. I was obsessed.
As luck would have it, 2 analysts quit on the last day of my Christmas break, and I was then hired full-time in their place.
I was at the right place at the right time—and had the track record to back it up.
So, I Took the Break and Ran With It
Since I’d just landed the good finance job, I put school on the back burner while I threw myself even more into work.
One day, I was sitting in class. The next, I was advising the CFO of a $75B company on a billion-dollar corporate asset.
I felt on top of the world.
But most importantly, I was determined to make the most of the break I’d just been given. While I did just what I needed to for school, I focused on the job and began to chart my next moves.
The Next Year, I Joined an SMB With No Financial Infrastructure
What seemed to be the logical next step in my career is what showed me the true power of good finance.
I joined an SMB in the media space with no financial infrastructure. My goal was to set robust systems in place that would keep the business on track no matter what.
I helped them set up their bookkeeping, build financial controls, and get accurate data.
The business went from $5M to $15M in 18 months.
I had always been passionate about finance, but I had no idea how dramatically it could change an SMB. I set out to help other businesses do the same.
Finally, I Went All In
I launched Scalable CFO with the mission to transform small business finance. I went all in and it’s been a crazy journey.
I’ve gone from:
0 to 7 figures
1 to 17 team members
$50M to $700M in revenues managed
And I’m just getting started.
Over the next decade, I’m going to build a financial services empire.
I’m excited to share what I learn along the way.
The Guiding Principle
Everything I’ve accomplished up to now boils down to one principle:
Do the painfully obvious things exceptionally well, every single day.
That’s how I got here, and it’s how I plan to keep on growing.
Hope you’ll follow along.
